The Day I Decided to Become a Data Gangster

There's a moment in every life when the ground shifts beneath your feet. Mine came in a doctor's office, staring at numbers on a chart that told me I had a 14% chance of making it.

Fourteen percent.

I'm an industrial/organizational psychologist by training. I've spent over a decade analyzing data, building assessments, and helping people understand themselves through numbers. Data was my language, my comfort zone, my superpower.

But sitting in that office, I realized something that would change my entire life's trajectory: I had never once thought to turn those skills toward the most important data set of all—my own health.

From Patient to Pattern-Finder

When you're handed a death sentence wrapped in statistics, you have two choices. You can accept those numbers as your fate. Or you can do what I did—roll up your sleeves, dig into the research, and become the most informed advocate for your own survival.

I chose to fight. Not blindly, not desperately, but strategically.

I dove into medical literature across the globe. I studied conventional treatments alongside integrative approaches. I tracked my biomarkers obsessively, looking for patterns the way I'd analyzed organizational data for years. I assembled a healing team and demanded they explain every number, every trend, every decision.

And slowly, those 14% odds started to shift in my favor.

I'm still here. Not by luck alone—though I'll take all the luck I can get—but because I learned to speak the language of my own body through data.

What It Means to "Be a Data Gangster"

When I tell people to become "data gangsters" in their healthcare journey, I get some interesting looks. But here's what I mean:

A data gangster doesn't accept vague answers. They ask for the numbers.

A data gangster tracks their own biomarkers and learns what optimal—not just "normal"—looks like for their body.

A data gangster walks into every appointment armed with questions, research, and a clear understanding of their own health trends.

A data gangster knows that no one will ever care about their health as much as they do—and acts accordingly.

This isn't about being difficult or distrustful. It's about being an empowered partner in your own care.

It's about recognizing that the healthcare system, however well-intentioned, isn't designed to give you the personalized attention your health deserves (medical error is the third leading cause of death). That part is up to you.

The MOJO Formula

Through my journey, I developed what I call the MOJO Formula for Healing: a framework that integrates 13 types of data and six healing toolboxes:

  • Pharmaceuticals – Working with, not against, conventional medicine

  • Supplements – Strategic nutritional support backed by evidence

  • Nutrition – Fueling your body's natural healing systems

  • Lifestyle – Sleep, movement, stress management, and joy

  • Environment – The spaces and substances that surround you

  • Healing Team – Building your personal board of health advisors

No single toolbox holds all the answers. True healing happens at the intersection of all six, guided by data and personalized to you.

From Surviving to Serving

My survival story could have ended there—with gratitude for more time and a quiet return to normal life. But once you've seen behind the curtain of how healthcare really works, you can't unsee it.

I founded MOJO Health Information, a nonprofit dedicated to teaching others what I learned the hard way. Through our podcast "MOJO Rising... How to Make Cancer Suck Less," we've reached over 60,000 people across 139 countries. I've developed the Heal Smarter and Health Defense programs, teaching the 8 Natural Health Defense Systems and showing people how to read their own blood markers like a roadmap to wellness.

I'm also building Vedalife, an AI-powered platform designed to bring personalized nutrition guidance to everyone—not just those who can afford a private health coach.

Because here's what I believe with everything in me: the tools to understand your own health shouldn't be reserved for the privileged few. Every person deserves to become the CEO of their own wellness.

Why "Be a Data G"?

This site is the next chapter of that mission. A place to learn, to question, to grow into the empowered health advocate you were always meant to be.

Whether you're facing a health crisis, trying to optimize your wellness, or simply tired of feeling like a passive participant in your own care—you're in the right place.

I'll be sharing practical tools, hard-won insights, and the kind of real talk about health that I wish someone had given me before that 14% moment.

Because data isn't just numbers on a page. Data is power. Data is clarity. Data is the difference between hoping for the best and creating the best possible outcome.

So welcome. I'm glad you're here.

May you live long and lucky.
